For anybody coming to Maui, it’s apparent that you need to experience the joy and wonder of biking down the side of the Haleakala Volcano. Don’t worry; it’s perfectly safe! Whether you’re an early bird and want to enjoy a sunrise tour or are simply looking forward to taking in the views and the majestic sights that the local floral and wildlife have to offer, there are several self-guided or self-paced options for you.

If you want to join up with a guided tour down the side of the 6500-foot mountain, ending by Paia Bay, you can also choose that. At Maui Mountain Riders, we think it’s essential for our guests to dictate the best way to enjoy the once-in-a-lifetime ride and make memories that will last for the rest of their days. We offer the safest rides available, no matter which you decide, but there are a couple of differences you should know about.

Self Guided Rides

Our self-guided rides cost $89.00 a person but can be had for $70 per person with our special online rate! If you book online, you get a significant discount, so don’t be afraid to forward it to all your friends and family!

Self-guided rides can occur throughout various times of the day, but if you want to enjoy the sunrise, our guests are to meet at our office by 7:30 am. From there, we will load you up and take you on a guided van tour from our office to the entrance of the Haleakala National Park. Don’t worry; only the van tour is guided, we promise. Once you’re at the top of the mountain, you’ll be able to travel the 26-mile downhill ride at your own pace and speed so you can stop where and when you would like to take in the sights, sounds, smells, and activities around you. Ending in Paia, you will enjoy the most extended unguided bike tour on the island!

Guided Bike Tours

We offer three types of guided bike tours. The guided sunrise tour has a price tag of $248.96, the pre-dawn tour checks in at $160, and the daytime tour is $129 per person. Don’t forget, you can enjoy the same 20% discount when you book online, which changes the pricing to $229, $130, and $109, respectively.

Our guided tours are the best way to get the most out of your journey. The tour guides are knowledgeable, will point out potential safety hazards, will ensure you get to the best viewpoints and have a wealth of knowledge about the history of Haleakala. Our guided tours have the same transport arrangements and bike routes as the unguided ride.

Each rider is informed of what to expect and the requirements for biking safely, regardless of the tour choice. If you find yourself undecided about which type of tour you want to take, we recommend looking at reviews online. Many previous guests will have posted pictures as well as honest feedback regarding their experiences that may sway your decision one way or the other. Remember to dress appropriately for the time of day and arrive on time if you choose a guided tour as we cannot make other guests wait for tardy members.
