Domes Miramare: once upon a time there was the house of Onassis …

It was once the residence of the Onassis family on the Greek island of Corfu, built in the late sixties. Now Luxury Collection®, part of Marriott International, has transformed it into a luxury resort, which it has announced the opening. Domes Miramare, a Luxury Collection Resort, Corfu, is the result of a major restoration work and is now ready to welcome its guests.

The structure was completely renovated and modern suites and luxurious villas were later added to it. “The Miramare hotel has a long history linked to the international jet set for this reason it is reassuring to see this jewel of hospitality reclaim the title it deserves, namely one of the newest and most luxurious resorts in the Mediterranean”, said Anthony Ingham. Global Brand Leader, The Luxury Collection, which continues “Thanks to an impressive and multimillion-dollar restoration, this exclusive resort will be one of the most sought-after destinations in the coming decades”.

Originally designed by Charalambos Sfaellos, Domes Miramare remains faithful to the modernist style of the Greek architect. The resort, for adults only, includes 113 rooms, suites and villas, which, redesigned by Kristina Zanic Design Consultants, reflect the color palette of the surrounding landscape: cream and taupe shades are brightened by blue and green tones, while the modern furniture it is made with natural materials, in harmony with the context in which the resort is located. The marble bathrooms with washbasins covered with small pastel-colored tiles recall the ancient Greek tradition of mosaics.

The luxurious Pavillon Suites overlook the sea and have a garden and private pool. Ideal for groups of friends and families, the hotel also has an exclusive area, with two villas with swimming pools and other services, which can be rented. The public spaces are decorated with motifs inspired by the island’s Venetian, French, English and Greek heritage, while Corfiot influences permeate the entire structure.

The culinary offer is inspired by the local tradition: under the guidance of the starred chef Tassos Mantis, the hotel restaurant offers a menu based on local dishes revisited in a modern way and prepared with seasonal ingredients. Guests also have a team of expert mixologists to turn to for a refreshing drink to be enjoyed at the rooftop bar.
